The purpose of using TOR browsers is to do internet surfing anonymously. It allows you to access every website on the internet by hiding your IP address and making your identity completely anonymous. Because of this, it is advisable to turn off Javascript (JS) while using TOR. 

What is JavaScript?

Disadvantages of using JavaScript while using TOR

There are actually no such disadvantages of using JavaScript while using TOR. Yet, it is considered to be risky. 

As it is believed that if you have enabled Javascript while using TOR, it opens a back door for the hacker to track your IP address. If you have enabled Javascript, the hackers/attackers can access the webpage you are using and from there they can even track your IP address too. And as TOR browsers are based on providing anonymity and privacy completely, hence it is advisable to disable it while using TOR. 

How to Disable JavaScript?

To be on the much safe side, it is better if you disable JS while using TOR. 

The method to do this is not complex at all. 

Following are the steps you need to follow:

  • Open the TOR browser.
  • Click on the Menu button located at the top right corner. 
  • Click on the Options tab. 
  • After that,  go to Settings and Privacy. 
  • Turn off Javascript from there, simply you will see the “Safest” option available, just click it. 

That’s it. By following these steps, you can disable Javascript while browsing over TOR. 

This will simply eliminate all kinds of risks of getting tracked and would allow you to enjoy fearless internet browsing.
